St. Lucia's Day also known as St Lucy's Day. Is a Swedish saint and the only truly Lutheran Saint that is celebrated although she was canonized in the Roman Catholic Church and is also observed by the Catholic Church. Her feast day is December 13, Lucia was a young girl who would go through the streets bringing food and warm drinks to those who were poor and had no place to go. She would put a crown of candles on her head so she could see and have both hands free. She was martyred in 304 A.D. because she wouldn't bow down to the ruler at the time and renounce Jesus. She is highly celebrated in the Scandinavian Countries. But the Swedish traditions are the strongest. She is also celebrated elsewhere as well. Young girls dress up and put a wreath with candles on their heads. Usually, the oldest girl in the family Churches also hold St. Lucy pageants in remembrance of her. St. Lucia is also known as St. Lucy. the word Lucy is derived from the word light and in fact, means light! by Connie Hull/Joyful226
