Peter Gene Hernandez (born October 8, 1985), known professionally as Bruno Mars, is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and choreographer. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, by a family of musicians, Mars began making music at a young age and performed in various musical venues in his hometown throughout his childhood. He graduated from high school and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a musical career. After being dropped by Motown Records, Mars signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records in 2009. In 2009, he co-founded the production team The Smeezingtons, responsible for the singles "Nothin' on You" by B.o.B and "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy. He featured on the hooks for both singles, becoming recognized as a solo artist. His debut studio album Doo-Wops & Hooligans (2010) included the international and U.S Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping singles "Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade", as well as the number-four single "The Lazy Song". Mars' second album, Unorthodox Jukebox (2012), peaked at number one in the United States. The album spawned the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping singles "Locked Out of Heaven" and "When I Was Your Man", as well as the number-five single "Treasure". In 2014, Mars lent his vocals to Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk", a single which topped many charts worldwide, including the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and UK. His third studio album, 24K Magic (2016), yielded the successful singles "24K Magic" and "That's What I Like". To date, he has sold over 130 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. Mars has landed seven number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 since his career launched in 2010, attaining his first five faster than any male artist since Elvis Presley. Mars has received many awards and nominations, including five Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, three Guinness World Record, and was named one of Time's 100 most influential people in the world in 2011. In December 2013, he ranked number one on the Forbes 30 under 30 list. Mars is known for his stage performances and retro showmanship. He is accompanied by his band, The Hooligans, who play a variety of instruments such as electric guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, drums and horns, and also serve as backup singers and dancers. Mars performs in a wide range of musical styl "Nothin' on You" was first made available in the United States via digital download on December 15, 2009, by Atlantic Records.[10] American rhythmic contemporary radios began adding the track onto their playlists on February 2, 2010, being released under Atlantic Records and Grand Hustle. On March 29, 2010, a promotional CD single of the radio version of the single as made available via Atlantic Records. Contemporary hit radios in the United Kingdom (UK) added a remix of the "Nothin' on You" featuring American rapper Big Boi on April 9, 2010.[11][12] On May 14, 2010, an EP of the song, containing the album version of the song, a remix and its respective radio cut, an instrumental and a cappella of the original version, was issued on several countries.[13][14][15] Later, on May 17, 2010, the radio version of "Nothin' on You" was released in the UK via digital download by Atlantic Records and the album track issued on CD single, which also contained B.o.B's "Haterz Everywhere" featuring Wes Fif.[16][17][18] The same CD single was also made available in Germany on May 21, 2010.[19] On June 15, 2010, the song was released in South Korea with Jay Park's vocals, instead of Mars' verses by Warner Music Group Asia Pacific.[20] In 2010, a 12" single containing different versions of "Nothin' on You" and "Airplanes" was issued by Atlantic Records in the United States 2010, Jay Park recorded a solo cover of the track and posted it on YouTube. The effect was so strong that the original version went back to the top of iTunes.[95] In the same year, American rapper XV cover the song was included in his mixtape 30 Minute Layover (2010) and Dead Prez sampled the song for his 2010 mixtape with DJ Drama titled Turn Off The Radio Volume 4: Revolutionary But Gangsta Grillz. The recording is called "The Beauty Within", with additional vocals by Antonia Jenaé.[96][97] The American group Boyce Avenue covered "Nothin' on You" along with Justin Timberlake and T.I.'s duet, "My Love" and "Rocketeer" by Far East Movement and Ryan Tedder, they included it in their sixth EP, Acoustic Sessions, Vol. 1, released on December 6, 2010.[98] In 2011, South Korean girl group Wonder Girls covered "Nothin' on You".[99] In the same year, "Weird Al" Yankovic recorded a parody of the song called "Another Tattoo", which is featured on his album Alpocalypse (2011). The song is featured in the movie Just Go With It
